Alchemy Symbols

Alchemists belived all matter was made up of earth, fire, water and air. The symbol of water flows down like water; the symbol fire rises up like flames. Sulphur and mercury are often paired together as masculine and feminine symbols repectively. The sun was the symbol of gold and the moon of silver.
