Tides privacy policy

Last updated 27 October 2026

Tides collects no personal data for XRMX. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. To show tide predictions it downloads data from public tide services; your location is only used on your device unless you choose otherwise.

What the app stores

  • Your settings, favourite stations, tide alerts and downloaded tide data, so the app works offline.
  • Any API keys you enter (ADMIRALTY, WorldTides) are stored only on your device and only sent to the service they belong to.
  • This is kept only on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

Location

  • If you tap “Nearest to me”, the app asks for your location and uses it on your device to sort stations by distance. Your location is not stored or sent to XRMX.
  • If you add your own WorldTides key and sync a custom location, that location’s coordinates are sent to WorldTides to fetch predictions for it.

Services the app connects to

  • Environment Agency (UK), NOAA Tides & Currents (US), ADMIRALTY UK Tidal API and WorldTides, to download station lists and tide predictions.
  • These services see the normal details of any internet request, such as your IP address, under their own privacy policies.

Permissions and why they’re used

  • Location: only for “Nearest to me”, and only when you use it.
  • Notifications and run at start-up: for the tide alerts you set up, so they still arrive after your phone restarts.
  • Internet: to download tide data.

Children

The app doesn’t knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
